A simple looping candle flame flipbook, made in Houdini and imported into Unreal.
A simple flame is made in Houdini, with timeshift and volumemix nodes so that the flipbook will be looping.
The flame and smoke flipbooks are rendered separately so they can have different colours, but also so the flames can be added additively, while the smoke is alpha blended.
The flipbooks are combined in Unreal in a Niagara particle system, and a flickering light material is added.
A quick candle model put together for the occasion. Subsurface scattering is what makes it look like a candle.
